About Us

This is the unlikely story of two girls who live oceans apart that were brought together through a mutual love (okay, mutual obsession maybe) of books.  Tiina in Europe and Colleen in New York, going about their daily lives and enjoying their books as they always have. Enter Goodreads, which throws Tiina and Colleen together in a buddy read and starts a friendship fueled by books, reading, food, laughter, nonsense, and more books.

The chances of Colleen and Tiina meeting were slim to none, but they were brought together by books, which goes to show just another power that books hold. The intention of Double Letters Book Club (so aptly named for the presence of double letters in both Colleen name and Tiina’s names) is to hopefully introduce people to both new and old books, and inspire people to read books that they may not have thought to read before. If you are visiting this blog then we have something in common, a love of books. So welcome and enjoy.

Tiina
Hello to all the five people who clicked on this Bio section. I’m Tiina (yes, TWO I’s), one of the co-founders and contributors to this reading blog. This my second attempt at one of these, so let’s hope that having Colleen around will motivate me to keep it going for longer. Two’s company etc., and it’ll be more fun for sure.

First things first, English is my second language, so I urge you to overlook any linguistic mishaps. Also, I have a love/hate relationship with commas. I hate them to the degree of overusing them. As to why I feel qualified to review anything? Technically, I am a literary scholar. I have a degree in literature and they told me I can refer to myself as one. No really, they did! I know, I laughed too. I still consider myself more a reader than a writer, but you don’t need perfect writing and grammar to get your point across. What else? The main thing I want for this blog is for my – our – love for books to shine through. I think reading and books are my main passion in life and one day when I really grow up, I hope to make it into a career. Right now I shall just be happy with volunteering at a library (spoiler alert: it’s more politics than I ever expected)!

In short, I hope you enjoy our little blog. Reading is what we love, so it was time to transition into declaring our love out loud. In writing. On the internet, where nothing is safe. Welcome and beware!

Colleen
I am a writer but have never been good at writing about myself so bear with me. My first love in life was reading and that has not changed. I was raised on Stephen King so I have a certain affinity towards horror and was also introduced to Science Fiction at an early age, which became another of my loves. Combine the two and you get Dystopian which I absolutely adore. Reading led me to discovering my ability to write well, and I quickly fell in love with the art and at a young age decided that I wanted to be an author one day (easier said than done). I went to college for six years and got three Bachelor’s Degrees: English Language, Creative Writing, and Literature. It seems that reading tends to get in the way of writing though so I found the best way to take advantage of this is to write book reviews.

As it stands, I am an aspiring writer, obsessive reader, and full-time book reviewer who works at an engineering firm in Manhattan. My goal is to one day get a book published and I am diligently working towards that while only experiencing minor bouts or procrastination.

I know I called out Horror, Science Fiction, and Dystopian as being my favorite genres (and don’t forget Fantasy!), but I will read anything, aside from maybe romance (that I leave to Tiina). What all this amounts to is that I have an ongoing love affair with books and reading, which I want to share with others who feel the same way. I hope to introduce people to new books, obscure books, and old books that they may not have read and even discover some new books myself along the way. I like to think of myself as nerdy, witty, original and creative, so I think what this really all comes down to is I would have been sorted into Ravenclaw.
